InSomnia is tactical action RPG being developed by Studio MONO, an independent development house whose team members are motivated by the shared goal of creating a complex, multi-layered RPG featuring genuinely unique game mechanics within a carefully constructed and coherent universe. InSomnia is a creative alternative to derivative big-budget projects.

Set in a dystopian universe with retro-futuristic, diesel-punk styling, the world of InSomnia is one in which the visible realm is a veil behind which are hidden many layers of reality that very few can hope to comprehend. Story[edit | edit source]

The bulk of the action in the game will take place on an enormous, half-deserted space station that has spent more than four centuries traveling to its ultimate destination: the Evacuation Point. Most of the station is abandoned and has come to be known as “the Dump,” but there are also many sectors that have never been explored. The survivors are trying to maintain order within a manned sector called URB-e in the hopes that the station will one day reach its destination.

Every player begins the game in the manned URB-e sector as a Descendant of the Nomans, a people who escaped their home planet more than 400 years earlier. The life-support system resuscitates the player from a 20-year-long Delta-Sleep, a state in which the majority of the inhabitants of the Manned Sector are kept in order to save resources. The player then encounters other people who have also been woken up and begins carrying out a series of instructions while simultaneously trying to determine what happened on the Station while he or she was asleep.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

There is no rigid system of levels or classes in InSomnia. When creating your character, you select Stats that will determine their basic capabilities. Character advancement involves developing Skills and selecting Traits that influence various aspects of the game. Your character’s unique set of skills, traits, and abilities thus forms gradually over time. Advanced characters will have a lot of advantages, but a solid understanding of the game’s mechanics can make it entirely possible, albeit challenging, for a “Noob” to defeat a “Veteran.”

InSomnia has unique game mechanics and a flexible character advancement system. Dynamic storyline content that is constantly updated, and the existence of hidden content. Action will take place in the here and now, which is why we are developing a unique toolkit. Hidden content will never be mentioned in update descriptions, and nothing about it will ever be announced. Gaining access to it will be truly challenging, but it will also be well worth the effort.
